Difficulties of Natural Language Processing in Machines

For humans, communicating through language is second nature, an indispensable skill that we’ve had since before we can remember. We can all understand, or “process” at least one language without giving it a second thought, so for a computer, which can calculate complex arithmetic in the blink of an eye, it should be a piece of cake. Right?
